Most of the encounters I’ve had with young men have left me feeling more like a career counselor or a babysitter than a wooed woman.
Of course, this isn’t always the case and there are definite exceptions.
You will probably need to be prepared to be lower on his list of priorities sometimes, even if his children are grown up. If he doesn’t, are you prepared to sacrifice your desire for children to find love?
They can be a wealth of experience and advice, often because one can learn from what they thing for younger women to date older men.
But at the very least, if a young woman has high standards for men and falls in love with someone older, we shouldn’t jump to shaming her into thinking she has “daddy issues.” After all, it’s possible that we’re living in a time when younger women do in fact have more in common with older males than their younger counterparts.
Some even take out their judgment verbally, like with Mary-Kate Olsen, 27, whose 44-year-old fiancé is dismissed as “gross,” “creepy,” “ick,” and “bizarre.” Or Joaquin Phoenix, 39, whose relationship with his 19-year-old girlfriend makes for something “disgusting,” “crazy,” and “sick.” Whether she’s 19 or 27, if a girl dates a substantially older man, most people will assume there’s something wrong, weird, or disturbing going on.
He’s a creepy “cradle robber,” and she must have “daddy issues.” Or, he just wants sex, and she just wants his money.
